Rules of the competition

Create a piece of art in Nick Bantock style, but not copying his work.

Anyone can join and participation is free. No fees and no returns.

You can enter more than one piece of art. Be sure to invite your friends to submit their art too. All the entries will be combined into a book.

All artwork submitted must be original. This means it is your own work, and if digitally created, you have enhanced it with paint, collage, embellishments, gold powder or flakes. Digital entries submitted electronically, scans and photocopies are not acceptable.

All entries received by mail and which fit the above criteria will be included on the blog.
The artwork will not be returned.

The first prize is $300 and a copy of the catalog. The winning entry will be used as the cover image for the catalog.
The second prize is $150 and a copy of the catalog.
The third prize is $50 and a copy of the catalog.

The rules are as follows:

-Complete an artwork in the style of Nick Bantock in a format any size up to
8.5 inches by 11 inches maximum, or 21cm x 27 cm maximum.
-You can select portrait orientation or landscape.


Your work can be mixed media, collage, montage, painting, printmaking, and photography, as long as the latter is part of a collage. Collage and/or the use of imagery are encouraged. Digitally created work should be enhanced with paint, collage, postage stamps, gold paint to give your work physical substance. You are advised to use a substantial support material so your mail art can survive International Post Office treatment.

Somewhere in your design, you MUST include:

  • a postage stamp
  • a piece of map
  • a large number
  • a letter
  • a character, being a person or an animal
  • some gold, either flake, paint, glitter.

Anything else in the design is up to you.

You must write in capital letters at the back of your artwork the name you want to appear in the book under your artwork, as well as your town and your country. You can add a title to your work.

Send your completed artwork postdated up to 1 December 2010 to participate.

your country.

All entries submitted via mail will be included on the blog, as long as they fit the above criteria.
Each entry will receive a number and the artworks will be displayed in the catalog according to the order in which they are received, except for the 3 winners. The sooner you send your artwork, the earlier in the catalog it will be displayed.

    i think it’s kinda lame you won’t return folks original art. why are you keeping it for yourself?

    This is exciting. I won’t sleep until I create and complete at least one piece as an homage to Nick!

  4. Does this have anything to do with Nick Bantock, personally? Is he judging? …or is this a call for mail art utilizing his name?
